How do you explain the dark
to someone who has only seen the light?
And just because it’s the light
or the dark
doesn’t mean it’s good
or bad.
See, the thing is…
many confuse
what they were taught
with what is.
Good.
Bad.
Right.
Wrong.
Who decided?
Who told us
What was what
And how do we know
they were right?
Because good and bad
were invented,
then inserted
into our weak, feeble minds.
And once you teach a mind
what to fear,
what to love,
what to worship,
what to condemn,
you no longer need
to hold its body
to control it.
And that is how we became enslaved.
Not only physically…
but mentally.
They took the body
and taught the mind
how to keep itself in chains.
And that’s why when we thought
we had finally gained our freedom,
we still never felt free.
The real cage
was always the mind cage.
A place we go once a week
to look for assurance.
To be told
what is right.
What is wrong.
What is good.
What is evil.
And if you tell a thousand people
the same thing
for long enough,
does it become true?
Or does it only become
what they all agree
is true?
Only a feeble mind
can be controlled
by someone else’s definition
of right and wrong.
Many see the world
in threes and fours,
but I learnt
to see the world
in ones.
Because if one person
believes something,
it is a belief.
If ten people believe it,
it is still a belief.
If a thousand people believe it,
it is still a belief.
So why does the mind
begin to call it fact
simply because
more minds agree?
We don’t just see the world.
We see the world
through everything
we have been taught
to believe about it.
And then we defend
those beliefs
as though we discovered
them ourselves.
We go around thinking
about what others
might be thinking of us.
While they’re doing
the exact same thing.
In the end,
everyone is just thinking.
So what use
is communication then?
I seem to ask.
Because maybe
communication isn’t about
proving that you’re right.
Maybe it’s about
trying to show someone
a world they’ve never
allowed themselves to see.
So I ask this question:
How do you explain
to a blind man
how beautiful the sky is?
How do you describe
a color
to someone
who has never seen it?
How do I possibly
show you the wonders
of the world
when you don’t want
to wake up?
How do I explain
the dark
to someone
who has only
ever known
the light?
